FAQ

Everything Rahway drivers ask a towing company before they book

Our own trucks, our own drivers, a license and an insurance policy behind them, $149 to book by phone or $129 online, mileage read out before dispatch, and a single monthly invoice for the shops and fleets.

Are you an actual towing company in Rahway, or a website that passes my call along?

An actual company. The trucks sleep in our own yard in Linden, eight minutes from Rahway, the people driving them are on our payroll, and whoever answers (908) 666-3168 is a company dispatcher with our whole fleet on a screen in front of her. Nobody buys or resells your call.

Where is your yard, and how long does it take a truck to reach Rahway from there?

Linden, the town immediately north, reached by St. Georges Avenue or Route 1. Count a few minutes to the Route 27 plazas, about eight to the station, slightly more to Inman Avenue. There is no Rahway storefront because the truck goes to the car, not the other way round.

What does licensed and insured mean when your company says it?

It means the state has licensed these trucks to tow and an insurer covers whatever is on their decks. It also means our driver takes photographs of your car going on and coming off, so any question later is settled from a picture instead of an argument.

What does a tow in Rahway cost with your company?

$149 to book by phone, $129 if you book online, and the mileage to whatever address you give, read to you before the truck is sent. A jump, a tire change, a lockout or a fuel drop is a single flat amount. The pricing page shows the whole thing.

Who is the person that turns up with the truck?

One of our drivers, in one of our trucks, with our name on the door. You hear from the dispatcher which truck was assigned, then from the driver when he is a few minutes away and again when he can see you.

How quickly can your truck get to me in Rahway?

Leaving the yard, St. Georges Avenue and the Route 1 lights are minutes away and downtown is roughly eight. Most hours a truck is already somewhere in Rahway, at Merck, on Route 1 or near the station, and the dispatcher quotes your wait from that truck's real location.

Can your company tow inside the Merck campus on East Lincoln Avenue?

Yes. Name the gate you entered by and where the vehicle is parked, and our driver presents himself to security when he arrives. Contractors and vendors who are on the campus week after week hold an account and settle it once a month.

My car will not start in the parking deck at Rahway station. Is that a tow?

Probably not. A car that sat all day while you were in the city usually just needs a jump, and that is what our driver tries first at one flat amount. If the battery is beyond saving he adds the tow on the spot, and he brings dollies for the levels a flatbed cannot get into.

Do you handle tractor-trailers and box trucks on Route 1?

Yes. The heavy and medium-duty trucks belong to the same fleet and answer to the same dispatcher as the flatbeds. Operators at the Lawrence Street docks and the Route 1 truck stops can hold a rate sheet and receive one invoice a month.

I broke down on the Garden State Parkway near Exit 135. Will you come to the shoulder?

On the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway the shoulder itself is served by the Turnpike Authority's authorized garages; book with us anyway, and once the authorized truck has the car off the highway we take it from the exit or the garage's lot to the shop or driveway you choose, at the same flat quoted price. Central Avenue, Route 1, St. Georges Avenue and every Rahway street are direct dispatch for our own trucks.

Does your company take cars to a storage lot?

No, because we do not have one. Your car can only go to the mechanic, the dealer, the body shop or the driveway you tell us, and nobody bills you to store it or to hand it back.

After a crash on Route 1 or St. Georges Avenue, can I call you instead of taking the rotation truck?

Yes, and quickly is best. Let the officer know your own towing company is coming and which body shop you want. Our driver winches the car up onto a flatbed, photographs every dent for your adjuster, and drives it to that shop rather than to a lot that charges by the day.

Do you open accounts for body shops, dealers and fleets in Rahway?

Yes. The garages on St. Georges Avenue and the dealers on Route 1 book their transfers on a direct line and get one invoice at month's end, while the fleets around Merck, Lawrence Street and Route 1 get a rate sheet and a person who knows their trucks. Dispatch or the contact page opens the account.

Do I need a roadside membership or insurance plan to use you?

No. Call, hear the price, pay it by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or cash. If your plan or your policy pays towing back, our receipt is itemized the way their claims people expect.

Can you tow an AWD, an electric car or a lowered car in Rahway?

Yes, and each of them goes on a flatbed with every wheel on the deck and the straps on the tires. Tell the dispatcher the make and she assigns the flatbed at the outset rather than sending a wheel-lift that has to turn around.

Is it cheaper to book online than to call?

Yes. Booking online sets the fee at $129 rather than $149. From a live lane on Route 1 or a light on Route 27, though, dial (908) 666-3168; the call is quicker when the situation is not.

Is there a surcharge for nights, weekends or holidays in Rahway?

No. Our own drivers cover the overnight hours, and a tow off the Route 1 corridor at 2 a.m. on Thanksgiving carries the same fee and the same per-mile figure as a tow off Milton Avenue on a Tuesday at noon.

Can you move a motorcycle from Rahway?

Yes, on a flatbed, chocked at the front wheel and held with soft straps; a sling never touches it. Whether it is in a driveway off Westfield Avenue, in the UCPAC lot after a show, or on the Route 1 shoulder.

Will you tow from Rahway to a shop in Linden, Clark, Woodbridge or Carteret?

Yes. Any of them, along with Avenel and Colonia, is a local tow: the booking fee and a few miles. Once the destination is the shore, Staten Island, New York or out of state, it becomes a long-distance job on one flatbed with the tolls counted into the quote.

What if the driver finds the job is harder than I described on the phone?

He puts the tools down and quotes it before he goes further. Your booking fee does not change; if the car needs a winch or dollies because it will not roll or steer, that is a separate figure named at the curb, and you can say no to it.

Can I ride in the truck with my car?

Yes. One or two people fit in the cab and ride free. If your group is bigger, mention it when you call so the dispatcher can sort something out instead of leaving anyone at the side of St. Georges Avenue.

Are you hiring tow truck drivers near Rahway?

Yes. We put flatbed and wheel-lift drivers on the payroll, sign owner-operators who bring a truck of their own, and add roadside providers. Everything open is listed on the driver jobs page.
